If you take a good look at Medium you will see that most of what gets published is behind the Medium paywall. You have to be a paying user of Medium to be able to read them.

There is zillions of articles about “How I made $$$$ amount of money blogging on Medium?”. Suddenly everyone is going to make money blogging and all the published posts are gone behind the paywall.

There is nothing wrong with making money by blogging but I believe there is more to writing than making money.

As a new writer who’s writing in a foreign language I prefer to write for the sake of learning and making new friends.

I think writing for money makes me think of subjects which makes more money so they might not be things I’m interested in. I want to express my ideas and beliefs.

Second to that by writing about things I’m learning, I will learn more deeply and will be able to discuss things with other like minded people from around the world.

Let’s share our experiences and knowledge and learn more. Don’t start blogging for making money. Start it with a passion of sharing your experience and then money will come.

So to wrap things up:

  1. Write about things matters most to you
Everyone has too many important things in his/her life. Focus on them not the topics which makes more money. Readers like to read original ideas. They want to see things from you point of view.
This will create a community around you. Community of caring people who will help you most of the time.
  2. Write to learn more
One of the most important things about learning new things is to teach them to others and blogging is one way of teaching those.
After you finished learning a topic start to write about it from you own angle. Write your take. Write about the things you don’t understand about that subjects and also about further readings. This definitely will help you to master that topic.

Happy writing :)
